At Hannover Messe 2017, Dassault Systèmes will demonstrate how the 3DEXPERIENCE platform supports companies in any industry that are implementing industry 4.0 initiatives to digitally connect all departments along the value-added chain. In hall 6, booth K30, visitors can experience the fully integrated, digitally supported value creation process of a packaging company, from customer requirements to the store shelf.
The experience features WestRock, a global consumer and corrugated packaging company, which used the 3DEXPERIENCE platform to reduce the time to develop packaging from 18 months to six months. A systemic and holistic view of the entire business process brings agility to innovation, optimizes production, and facilitates a quick, flexible response to local market specifications.
The experience centers on how 3D virtual applications are used to create innovative design variants of beverage packaging based on customer requirements, regulatory conditions, environmental and recycling constraints, and local size standards. The variants’ physical features and effects on the production machinery configuration are virtually analyzed, simulated and improved, even while the packaging is still being designed. The resulting "digital thread" traces the use of 3D design data through to 3D models of the entire manufacturing process that are used to validate the process before it begins.
Another aspect of the experience, in collaboration with Bosch Rexroth, addresses systems engineering by showing how the 3DEXPERIENCE platform makes it possible to connect physical devices to their virtual models, independent of the programming language. Using an application interface, developers can configure and test software, electronics and mechanics. If any finished installations need adjustments, virtual commissioning reduces unproductive changeover time. Mistakes are detected early on to avoid rework. With the help of augmented reality, visitors can see how maintenance processes during physical production can be controlled through the model, and see part of the packaging plant in action.
