Large structural applications to benefit from innovation in pellet printing
Royal DSM, a global science-based company in Nutrition, Health and Sustainable Living, is expanding its additive manufacturing innovations in fused granulate fabrication (FGF). The company is partnering with Juggerbot 3D, an additive manufacturing machine builder who recently developed a printer equipped with extrusion technology, to explore the untapped potential of FGF printing. Together, the two companies will develop high-performance pellet printers and materials for industrial additive manufacturing.

BIEGLO High-Performance Polymers is adding new ultra-high temperature resistant products to their portfolio. Well known for their High-performance polymer products and a strong player offering materials positioned at the top of the polymer pyramid, BIEGLO now adds Polybenzimidazole (PBI) and ultra-high temperature thermosetting polyimide (PI-s) to their established product families.

KRAIBURG TPE has performed extensive tests to examine the suitability of its thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) for use in additive manufacturing (AM). The tests have shown that almost all of the company’s TPEs can be processed with excellent results using fused deposition modeling (FDM) on devices from Pollen AM.

Atmospheric pressure plasma is used in wire bonding as a selective fine cleaning step to remove contamination and residues from the contact surfaces. In general, strong bonds between wire and substrate can only be achieved on clean contact surfaces (bond pads). Thus, plasma treatment has a considerable effect on the quality and consequently the reliability of the entire component. Together with TPT Wire Bonder from Karlsfeld and the joint partner Axend Pte Ltd., relyon plasma has investigated the effects of cold atmospheric pressure plasma on wire bonding with gold wire.

Neste and the Finnish industrial services provider Outotec have jointly demonstrated the suitability of Neste MY Renewable Isoalkane™ as a fully bio-based diluent for metal extraction in hydrometallurgical processes. The diluent is based on Neste's NEXBTL technology and is produced exclusively from bio-based waste and residues.

Innovations in Optics, Inc. introduces the Model 6000B-100, a compact, multi-wavelength LED solar simulator for PV manufacturers to test steady-state I-V measurements of photovoltaic devices. It meets Class AAA solar simulator requirements of IEC 60904-9 for spectral match, uniformity of irradiance, and temporal stability.

Xaar has launched its 5-step service for the evaluation of fluids for use in new product development and advanced manufacturing applications. The service aims to help companies establish the suitability of inkjet technology and fluids in new applications without incurring large upfront costs. To support the new service, Xaar has invested in a dedicated laboratory. This is equipped with a number of custom test rigs for sample production and fluid testing including a Notion Systems n.jet 3D printer.

Global technology Group Oerlikon, with vast expertise in materials, has entered into an additive manufacturing (AM) research alliance with Linde, the world’s largest industrial gases company, and the Technical University of Munich (TUM), one of the leading German universities in engineering. The partners aim to develop new high-strength, lightweight aluminum-based alloys that can serve the safety and weight reduction needs of the aerospace and automotive industries. The Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs is funding 50% of the EUR 1.7 million research project.
