Elkem Silicones will be present at the upcoming Formnext show, the leading industry platform for additive manufacturing and industrial 3D printing in Frankfurt in Germany from November, 16th to 19th and will showcase its wide portfolio of silicone solutions for Additive Manufacturing/3D Printin.

To answer the challenging megatrends, Elkem Silicones has created a brand-new technology, called AMSil™ & AMSil SILBIONE™ series, to make functional parts based on genuine silicone elastomers by Additive Manufacturing/3D Printing.

• AMSil™ 20000 series for use in industrial applications (aerospace, automotive, electronics, equipment etc.). The AMSil™ series will allow silicones to be used by AM/3DP in digital, connected and distributed manufacturing (Industry 4.0) for a more efficient and sustainable production method.

• AMSil™ Silbione™ 24000 series for use in restricted medical applications. Elkem Silicones is committed to improve the quality of life of the ageing population by combining the performances, the durability and biocompatibility of silicones with AM/3DP.

As an acknowledgment of these disruptive silicone solutions Elkem Silicones has just recently been declared a winner in the renowned worldwide competition of the 2021 R&D 100 awards in the Mechanical Materials category demonstrating the outstanding accomplishment for Elkem Innovation overall.

In line with the open innovation strategy supported in the Elkem group, this work to develop innovative solution in Additive Manufacturing with silicone materials is done close to industrial partners in various industries. As an example of this collaborative business development approach Eriks, a specialized industrial service provider and Elkem Silicones teamed up for a silicone 3D printing development. Under the course of this partnership, Elkem Silicones will supply products from the AMSil™ range which will be used by Eriks to produce flexible silicone parts.

Elkem Silicones has historical and strong Open Innovation relationships with a diversity of partners like academic laboratories, universities, industry clusters, industrials platforms, and manufacturers. To reinforce this ecosystem, Elkem Silicones innovation teams are willing to develop more and more collaboration with new business partners, allowing to accompany innovative new technologies as in the case of 3Deus Dynamics, a young French start-up developing a breakthrough technology in Additive Manufacturing/3D Printing.

In line with Elkem commitments for the future

Additive Manufacturing/3D Printing is an integral part of Elkem’s climate Roadmap. Digital and connected, it has many technical advantages and makes a lot of sense when it comes to shifting to a more sustainable production and consumption. Additive Manufacturing allows for a very local production, with no shelf-life threat nor scale economies - that often implies mass production - and makes prototyping and small batch sizes easy. Not only will it help our customers reduce waste but also save on transportation and storage costs, two big contributors to the total carbon footprint of end-products.
