Sustainable high-performance polymers based on renewable or circular raw materials
High-performance additives that conserve resources and improve production processes
New business models to promote a sustainable circular economy for future generations
Evonik will be presenting its latest sustainable solutions for the plastics industry at this year's plastics trade fair K2022 from 19 to 26 October in Düsseldorf. Employees and their families will be at the centre of the trade fair presentation. Under the motto "Next Generation Plastic Solutions", Evonik's plastics experts will present their contribution to more sustainability, efficiency as well as solutions for a circular economy with personal examples.
"We are at the centre of many different industrial value chains. Our goal is to support their transformation into smoothly functioning cycles in order to leave a more sustainable world for future generations," says Lauren Kjeldsen, Head of the Smart Materials Division at Evonik, who will be the keynote speaker at an event organised by kunststoffland NRW to kick off K2022. Evonik recently announced that it will invest three billion euros in sustainable solutions by 2030. This portfolio transformation will pave the way for new processes and business models, making Evonik an important contributor to a full circular plastics economy.
One of the world's most important events for the plastics and rubber industry provides the perfect platform to showcase Evonik's Next Generation Solutions and Global Circular Plastics Program. In addition to new sustainable high-performance polymers, special flame retardant additives, resource-saving, environmentally friendly silicas and silanes, the specialty chemicals company will also showcase advanced solutions for various plastics recycling technologies and the development of new sustainable business models.
"The market for circular plastics is growing faster than the market for new products. Therefore, it was important for us to use our know-how to develop new solutions such as our eCO products based on circular raw materials," says Ralf Düssel, head of Evonik's High Performance Polymers Business Line. "We want to accelerate this growth by developing new business models that improve the circularity of our own products, such as polyamide 12."
Evonik has launched a group-wide Global Circular Plastics Program to promote and support the transformation of the traditional linear plastics economy into a fully sustainable circular economy. "The new Center for Circular Plastic Solutions leverages Evonik's unique position at the centre of various value chains to bring together key stakeholders from governments, universities, industry, consumers and environmental groups. This is the only way we can find holistic solutions for new sustainable business models," says Patrick Glöckner, head of the global Circular Plastics Program.
Another important lever for Evonik to expand the circular economy for plastics is its wide range of solutions to improve the recycling of plastics, including processing additives for defoaming, wetting, de-inking, de-labelling and odour control. Evonik's additives significantly improve the economic efficiency of mechanical recycling and the quality of recyclates. They enable the production of high-quality applications and support Evonik's goal of improving the quality of more than 400,000 tonnes of recyclable plastics by 2025.
Evonik will be showcasing other key product solutions at K2022 on its stand in Hall 6, stand number B28, including:
Dynasylan® SILFIN 301, offering a less energy-intensive manufacturing process for halogen-free, flame-retardant HFFR cable sheathing and water pipes.
INFINAM® PA, a new sustainable PA-12 powder with significantly reduced CO2 emissions for Powder Bed Fusion 3D printing technology. TÜV Rheinland has certified the associated life cycle assessments, attesting to an almost 50 percent improvement in the company's own carbon footprint.
SIPERNAT® D 17, a high-performance anti-caking and free-flow additive that reduces waste and production downtime by coating the individual particles of polymer powders, granules and plastic additive raw materials, enabling free flow, accurate dosing and easy handling.
SPHERILEX® 30 AB and SPHERILEX® 60 AB anti-blocking agents that can facilitate film unwinding and significantly improve film handling properties during processing and storage.
TEGOMER® H-Si 6441 P provides flame retardancy for high-performance plastics such as PA, PBT or TPE, and TEGOMER® H-Si 6441 H improves the flowability of highly filled plastic compounds used in electromobility applications.
TEGO Sorb® additives eliminate the odour nuisance that often remains in post-consumer recyclates. In TEGO Sorb® PY 50 PE and TEGO Sorb® PY 50 PP, the odour absorber is predispersed in a polyethylene (PE) or polypropylene (PP) carrier, making the products suitable for processors without processing elements.
VESTAMID® eCO E40, a new sustainable high-performance plastic made exclusively with renewable energy and based on 50 percent materials derived from recycled scrap tyres. The carbon footprint can be reduced by 42 percent compared to conventional VESTAMID® products.
