The exhibition Domestic Futures is a link between current everyday life and possible scenarios in an impending future. The exhibition contains three living environments we are familiar with at first sight, in order to physically bridge the distance to the future: a "bio-tech" kitchen, an "autarky" greenhouse in a garden and an "interstellar" campsite. They imagine our daily domestic life in 5, 10 or 50 years.

The interstellar campsite features photo and video content from Neri Oxman's Wanderers Series. The campsite, based on another planet, shows our social acceptance of leaving our own planet Earth for a new colony somewhere in the interstellar space. But how should we prepare our bodies for this future, how will the food we cultivate there taste like and how will fashion look like in the outer space?

Oxman's Wanderers collection explores the possibility of voyaging to the worlds beyond by visiting the worlds within. The series represents the classical elements understood by the ancients to sustain life (earth, water, air and fire), and offers their biological counterpart in the form of microorganisms engineered to produce life-sustaining elements. The Stratasys 3D printed wearables are designed to interact with a specific environmental characteristic of their destination and generate sufficient quantities of biomass, water, air and light necessary for sustaining life.
