Comau, a world leader in advanced industrial automation products and solutions, and Exechon, an international company whose patented technologies are used in the development of advanced parallel kinematics solutions, have joined forces to design and build a new Comau machining center capable of machining lightweight profile and structural components for various industries, with special focus on automotive, aerospace and electrification.

In an effort to introduce a new machining paradigm for handling large, complex aluminium parts, the companies have entered into a strategic development cooperation. They will thus use their respective competencies to develop a concrete solution for their customers that will enable them to respond cost-effectively to the key drivers in the changing machining industry: the increased use of lightweight components that reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, the growing importance of electrification for car manufacturers and the increasing degree of production complexity in the aerospace sector.

The joint project will be strengthened by the combination of Comau Machinings' globally recognized competence in system integration and management of complex production lines with Exechon's innovative technology paradigm. Since time to market, flexibility and multi-part management are not negotiable because individual turnkey solutions have to meet specific project requirements, the combined expertise of both partners makes the big difference for customer value. Exechon will develop the core of the new machine, while Comau with its 45 years of experience in industrial automation and integration will ensure the optimal solution for each project.

"The importance of this project lies in Comau's ability to offer a 360° service in electrification, with new light machining centers as the central link", explains Luca Ferrero, COO of Comau Machining. "By combining a lightweight approach at Comau Machining with our expertise in bodywork and battery assembly, we can now complete the value chain and deliver advanced solutions for battery case machining and more".

"It has been an amazing year because Comau and Exechon together have managed an extremely fast transition from conventional cars and airplanes to an electric and lightweight concept", confirms Karl Erik Neumann, CEO - Inventor of Tricept & Exechon PKM. "We have shown how our XMini machine and the automation expertise of Comau and its employees can together change a production paradigm. We believe in the future and we believe in a future with Comau."

Backed by decades of innovation and technical expertise, Comau Machining stands for long-term precision, reliability, flexible manufacturing processes and, above all, integration capability for complex projects. The comprehensive range of products and services includes machining centres, assembly and testing equipment within a machining process or as part of the production line, thermal spray coating and material handling.
