16 artists in the entertainment and gaming industries to participate in two design contests sponsored by Pixologic, 3D Systems Gentle Giant Studios, FSL3D, Wacom & 3DRP
Attendees to 3D Printer World Burbank, the 3D printing industry's main event, will have front-row seats for an epic battle between 16 leading entertainment and gaming industry artists as they square off head-to-head in a LIVE Sculpt-Off on Friday, January 30. All 16 sculpts will be 3D printed in color by 3DRP and displayed on the show floor the very next day so attendees can vote for their favorites. At the same time, photographs of the pieces will be made available for online voting so the entire world can participate.
This year's competition will feature top talent from industry heavyweights such as Darkside Game Studios, The Aaron Sims Company, IronKlad Studios, Bioware, Warner Animation Group, Tonikorol Studios, Disney Interactive, DICE LA, Sony, Legacy Effects, Hangar 13, Blizzard Entertainment and The Mill.
"Last year's 3D Printer World event was highlighted by our first ever LIVE ZBrush 'Sculpt Off,' a contest where eight artists battled for 90 minute intervals through four rounds," explains Jaime Labelle, COO at Pixologic. "The Sculpt Off was a rousing success. This year we're adding another category – a hard-surface 'Jaeger-themed' contest to the 'Kaiju-themed' organic contest, and are bringing eight additional artists to the battle for a total of 16 contestants. We can't wait for it to start! Joins us at booth 301 and the main stage for an epic battle!"
Contest winners will be awarded a Pegasus Touch SLA 3D printer from FSL3D and a large 3D print of their sculpt courtesy of 3D Systems Gentle Giant Studios. Second place winners will be awarded a Cintiq 13 courtesy of Wacom.
"We are thrilled to be sponsoring design contests with so many talented artists, and are very much looking forward to awarding each of the winners a Pegasus Touch 3D printer," says Henry Liu, chief executive officer of Full Spectrum Laser, FSL3D's parent company. "Our desktop printers deliver high quality, finely detailed 3D prints, giving artists a terrific platform for realizing their inspirations in physical form. We're certain the contestants who win our printers will put them to good use and enjoy them for many years to come."
