In addition to a well-thought-out digitisation strategy, the right IT infrastructure is of paramount importance. More and more companies are therefore turning to software-as-a-service in the cloud. Instead of purchasing software solutions in a complete package with fixed licences, customised packages via the cloud offer multiple advantages: flexible, scalable and with external IT specialists available at all times in the background.

In the Executive Summary, IDC shows that 73 percent of the companies surveyed are already using software-as-a-service to implement their own digitisation projects. 46 percent are even in an advanced phase and are already using cloud for several workloads. The main reasons cited are faster provision of new solutions and functionalities (33 per cent), an increase in business agility (29 per cent) and direct access to IT resources for specialist departments (26 per cent).

Implementing digitisation step by step with SaaS from the cloud:
The IDC experts identify five steps that companies should take when using SaaS via the cloud. These not only ensure a smooth implementation, but also create the basis for agile business processes - two factors that are particularly important for medium-sized companies.

1. develop a clear strategy: In order for the digital transformation to be successful in one's own company, a goal should first be set. Considerations about the tasks and roles of individual business areas in the digital transformation process play a role there. In addition, it should be defined how organisation, processes and technology can be integrated into the change management.

2. define the necessary steps: In order for the change to succeed, all departments within the company should be involved. Existing processes and workflows of the individual departments must be put to the test and optimised. Transparency and exchange are the keys to success. 3.

3. demonstrate the advantages of SaaS: In order for companies to realise the full potential of SaaS, decision-makers should get all stakeholders on board early on and show them the benefits of SaaS for their work.

4. take security concerns seriously: Reservations about cloud solutions are still widespread. In order to ensure that SaaS is nevertheless seen as a benefit by all stakeholders in the company, it is necessary to work on convincing them and to transparently dispel reservations.

5. focus on the learning organisation: In order to successfully introduce SaaS and initiate the digital transformation, the development of a digital corporate culture is essential. Only if synergy effects are used and multipliers in the specialist departments pass on their knowledge and experience can processes be successfully optimised and digitalised.
